New Rules of Membership to enable IGBA expansion
The IGBA adopted in Kyoto in December 2012 its new membership rules. These new rules are a result of a two year consultation period by the members of IGBA. As the IGBA has expanded membership in the past, it will continue to do so in the future whilst ensuring several objectives:
- That the IGBA membership includes both developed and developing countries.
- That international recognized standards of quality and comparability for generic and biosimilar medicines are supported by potential members.
- That potential members have membership that is open to all generic and biosimilar pharmaceutical companies and not only to local producers.
New Aims and Objectives Based on the Principle of Improving Access to Healthcare
In conjunction with the new membership rules, the IGBA has adopted new aims and objectives based on the principle of increasing access to healthcare. The overall objective is to “support the development of international and regional policies which seek to improve access to affordable quality medicines”, thus helping to establish a truly global organisation of quality producers of generic and biosimilar medicines.
IGBA Mission On Access and Quality
The IGBA will continue to work towards its overall objective of the development of international and regional policies which seek to improve access to affordable quality medicines. In doing so, we will also work hard to expand the membership of the group and continue a constructive dialogue with international and regional organizations in healthcare and trade related areas.
